We spoke with Eclipx employee Lani Broster, a FleetPlus Novated Sales Manager.
I manage a team of 6 sales consultants as well as interact with both internal and external stakeholders.
I thrive on helping my team grow and develop within their role and achieve their goals. Having my team highly engaged and working like a well-oiled machine together is my favourite part. A sales team is like a family and we spend so much time together, so I want to make sure my team is happy and driven to do their best everyday
I have been in finance for 6 years but stepped into novated leasing about 2.5 years ago as a sales consultant. When I first started, I thought it would be easy as I had worked in finance before. Novated leasing was a completely different type of finance where I had to learn a lot and be part of a fast-paced sales team. After working hard to achieve my goals I was promoted in October 2020 to manage a team of 6 consultants. Coming from a background of sales I knew the key metric to ensure my team reached their sales targets yet had never been in a leadership role. Through regular one on ones with my manager, taking on extra responsibilities and the leadership training, I feel I have not only grown within my role but also grown personally to continue developing further.
Within the group, if there is ever an area you want to gain knowledge in, the staff are happy to assist. Myself personally, I have a great manager and leaders around me that support and guide me to achieve my best. Being able to work autonomously especially as a sales manager is very important to me and knowing that I have the assistance to grow and develop. Over the last 3 months, leaders within the business have been offered leadership training through an external provider which has enabled me to develop further in my career.
Resilience – life and jobs are never the same. If you were to look back 5 or 10 years ago on how the finance industry let alone how any job was, it would be very different. Even through COVID as a business or individually there has been so much to learn. I think it is so critical to have resilience and believe in yourself that when things are going well you acknowledge have worked hard to achieve them but when times get tough you can dig deep to brush yourself off and continue striving forward.
As people often say, no two days are the same in a job. I genuinely feel that is true at Eclipx and there is always a new experience or challenge to overcome. You learn a lot in a short period of time and interact with many different areas of the business which in turn enables you to expand your knowledge.
Never give up, keep working hard and believe in yourself. There are days when you might wake up and think this is all too hard or you cannot get through something, but you are stronger than you think. In life as my Mum has always said to me, “You are never given more than you can cope with.” If you have the determination and strength to get through the hard times, then when it is all going well it is a walk in the park. You reap what you sow and by putting your best foot forward everyday means you have more self-satisfaction and achieve your goals.
I am more confident in myself and my role. Over the last 2.5 years I have learnt so much and taken on extra responsibilities which has given me the confidence to progress in my career. There were a lot of changes and technology advancements implemented in the business over the last 9 months and I feel I have better adapted and coached my team each time there is a change. I have learnt a lot more about people management and working with different personalities to get the best results.
